Minister Suharso : Digital Transformation Create 46 Million New Jobs


ZonaEXpose.com - Minister of National Development Planning  chaired the Ministerial Level Multi-Stakeholder Meeting with the discussion of the Digital Transformation Major Project, which was held physically and virtually, Thursday (27/05/2021).

President Joko Widodo had previously given directions related to digital transformation planning. First, the acceleration of expanding access and improving digital infrastructure followed by the acceleration of internet service provision in 12,500 villages or sub-districts and public service points.

Second, the roadmap for digital transformation in strategic sectors such as: government, public services, social assistance, education sector, health sector, trade, industrial sector, broadcasting sector.

Third, the acceleration of national data center integration. Fourth, preparing the digital talent HR (human resources) needs. Fifth, prepare quickly for regulations, funding schemes, and financing for digital transformation.

On this occasion, Minister Suharso highlighted the various economic potentials of digital transformation. In digital economy, digital transformation will add approximately USD 1.16 trillion to Asia Pacific GDP by 2021 and increase the growth rate by 0.8 percent annually

The International Data Corporation (IDC) study conducted by Microsoft estimates that around 60 percent of Asia Pacific's GDP will be obtained from digital products or services by 2021. Digitalization will have an impact on increasing Indonesia's GDP by USD 150 billion by 2025.

In addition, Indonesia's economic internet reached USD 27 billion in 2018 and is estimated to grow by USD 100 billion in 2025

In digital governance, there is a potential savings in data center operating and maintenance costs of 8.1 trillion rupiah per year, savings in operating and maintenance costs of 2.7 trillion rupiah per year, and potential savings in development costs of 12 trillion rupiah.

Apart from highlighting this, the Minister also discussed the disruption of digital transformation through automation in the industrial world.

Around 23 million jobs will be lost due to automation in Indonesia by 2030. On the other hand, around 27-46 million new jobs will be created in Indonesia in the period up to 2030.

The potential for new types of work is created due to changes in business models as well as increased competence and higher productivity due to the use of more advanced technology.
