ZonaExpose.com -- The Minister of National Development Planning conduct a working visit to the Center for Superior Animal Breeding and Forage in Padang Mangatas, Limapuluh Kota Regency, on Friday, April 9, 2021.
The visit was inseparable from the government's commitment to building national food security, especially in the field of providing food for animal protein, namely beef and its derivative products.
In 2024, the RPJMN sets a target for protein consumption from livestock at 11.0 grams / capita / day, while in terms of the availability of animal protein, it is targeted at 2.9 million tons in 2024.
The Minister argue that the fulfillment of animal protein is very important in strengthening the quality of people's food consumption, and in the long run it will have an impact on improving the quality of Indonesia's human resources.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized 3 things. First, to achieve the target for the availability of animal protein, the domestic population must be increased, where one of the strategies is to strengthen livestock breeding centers which include strengthening the facilities and infrastructure of the center, increasing the area of forage by about 10 percent, increasing the population of livestock breeds by 2.5 percent, as well as making the center as an agent that can transfer animal husbandry technology innovations (center of excellence) for breeders and other livestock actors.
Second, the supporting infrastructure and supporting the presence of the hall must be strengthened, especially the access road to the hall. With good connectivity, it will not only make the movement of livestock physically smoother, but also bring farmers, livestock actors, and the wider community closer to the hall.
Third, the government sees that this center has the potential to continue to develop nursery businesses with economies of scale. The area of the hall which reaches 280 hectares with an area of 211 hectares of grazing and a population of 1,227 individuals, makes the BPTU-HPT Padang Mangatas as one of the cattle centers that can continue to be pushed to become an international standard center and can develop its own business unit.
Therefore, initiation can be taken to start cooperation with business entities, both BUMN and private, for the development of the livestock business.
