The Minister of National Development Planning hopes that foreign students studying at Brawijaya University will become Indonesian ambassadors in their respective countries when they graduate. This was said when giving a speech at the South and Triangular South Cooperation (KSST) event, on Friday, April 16, 2021.
“I really wish that after completing your study, all of you would become ambassador between Indonesia and your country. I hope you can bridge communication to strengthen the relations between the two nations by sharing good news and memorable experience in Indonesia, promoting our traditional cuisines, our music, our beautiful nature, as well as Indonesian products,” said the Minister.
The Minister said that currently there are more than ten thousand international students in Indonesia, and one hundred and seventy of them are Universitas Brawijaya students.
The Minister acknowledged that scholarship program for international student has given benefits to increase people-to-people contact among countries.
Students who attended the meeting included from Tunisia, Palestine, Yemen, Russia, America, and Sudan. The Minister also asked the students present to convey their impressions about Indonesia.
One of those who gave an impression was Mujamid from Russia. He said that so far learning activities have been going well without problems. However, he and his friends experienced difficulties in speaking Indonesian. Therefore they hope to be given Indonesian language courses and interact more with Indonesian students.
Govetnment have been active to award scholarship for people from southern countries. Government of Indonesia has several scholarship programs, two of them are Dharma Siswa and Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) scholarship. Unfortunately, due to pandemic situation, scholarship program in 2020 is postponed.
Universitas Brawijaya is a leading campus for the scholarship program. The Minister also convey appreciation to Rektor for his leadership to increase Universitas Brawijaya’s contribution to the scholarship program. The good thing is the program have integrated with the SSTC research and innovations conducted by Center of SSTC Study of Universitas Brawijaya.
